About Me

gurtnoodlegirllogo

Hi! My name is Kitty McEwan and I am a 15 year old illustrator in Plymouth, UK.  This blog is a collection of my personal and professional work as well as my reviews and thoughts about the events and exhibitions I go to.

As an illustrator I focus mainly on character illustration and making zines, and I am working on comic and concept art.  I also design patterns and posters.  I work in pen and ink, markers, watercolours and digital and I am exploring printmaking.  I also sometimes make video games with my brother for game jams.

I self-publish my zine Gurt Noodle and I organise zine workshops to promote zinemaking as a way of publishing art and ideas that is accessible to everyone.  I also keep a Zine Library which I take along to the workshops with me.  I sometimes table at events with my zines, badges, prints and hand-drawn cards.  You can keep track of what I have coming up by following me on instagram.com/midnakit and twitter.com/midnakit and you can contact me about commissions and collaborations by clicking here.

I am passionate about building community with other young artists and so in 2017 I became the Creative Director and Co-Founder of YEA Plymouth, an independent organisation led by young emerging artists aged 11-19.  We organise events, workshops and art projects.

I was home educated (I have never been to school!) but now I am a student at Plymouth College of Art and am studying an Extended Diploma in Graphics, Illustration and Game Arts (GIGA).  I have a separate blog for my college work which you can find here.  I am really enjoying my course and I am a Student Rep for my class.  I am also a member of the Barbican Theatre Arts Force team for aspiring arts leaders aged 15-25.

I am enthusiastic about supporting all local artists and so I try to visit and write about as many local arts events as I can on this blog.  I am also a Young Activator for Visual Arts Plymouth and I am a supporter and volunteer for the annual Plymouth Art Weekender.

I also go to a couple of local youth clubs, play electric guitar and bass, and have earned my Junior Black Belt in KTX kickboxing.  As well as all this, I like to play video games, listen to music, and read comic books!

Some of my recent achievements are:
